One day in Hong Kong
The start of our trip
We spent a day in Hong Kong thanks to a long layover and no visa requirements for Indian citizens. (Note: Indian citizens now require pre-arrival registration.) It was the start of our year long sabbatical and our first travel destination after we quit our jobs and left the comfort of our homes (here is more about us.)
We landed in Hong Kong with a carry-on backpack and smily happy faces. We couldn’t believe the journey had actually started. It was quite the adventure as we had not researched anything about Hong Kong. Spontaneous planning led to an awesome time here.
One day in Hong Kong
We loved every single minute of our day in Hong Kong. With excitement fueling our tired legs we walked around the city central. We managed to explore some awesome sights that the city had to offer.
There was Man Mo temple, a 150 year old temple now nestled between skyscrapers. From there we went to the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical garden, bang in the middle of the city, and got to see strikingly pink flamingoes. We couldn’t possibly miss Victoria Peak and riding the Peak Tram, one of the top destinations in Hong Kong, and despite it being a cloudy day, a definite highlight for us. And finally, taking the Star Ferry and admiring the city skyline at night, before heading back to the airport.
Was spending one day in Hong Kong enough? Probably not! I am sure there was a lot we missed, and we know we will be back to explore it all. But we were glad that this was the start of our sabbatical. One day or one year we were ready to explore the world.
Here is a video montage of how we spent a day around this vibrant, cosmopolitan and wicked city.
